What Exactly Is a Fresh 48 Session?

A Fresh 48 session is a lifestyle newborn photography session that takes place within the first 24–48 hours after your baby’s birth. It’s usually done in your hospital room, birthing center, or even at home shortly after delivery.

Unlike a posed newborn session that happens in a more formal setting a few weeks later, a Fresh 48 session focuses on authentic, unposed moments. Like your baby’s first yawns, wrinkled fingers, hospital bracelets, and the love of you and your family as you welcome your new baby.

What to expect during your Fresh 48 Session

Sessions take place in your hospital room a day or two after delivery. I’ll come by one quiet afternoon and spend about 45 minutes in the room with you. We’ll start by wrapping baby up in a swaddle and taking some photos of them in the hospital bassinet. I will have swaddles with me for you to choose from, or you can bring your own. These are intended to capture baby’s cute details, like tiny eyelashes, toes and little yawns. You do not need to have any props or outfits prepared! But if you have a welcome sign, stuffy or special outfit, this is a great time to include it.

After we take some solo shots of baby, we can take some family photos if you’d like! You don’t need to get dressed up for this. Just run a quick brush through your hair and we’re good to go! This is also a great time to bring a sibling in to meet baby and get some candid moments captured, as well as their first photo together.

After we feel like we’ve gotten enough photos, I’ll leave you guys alone to enjoy your newborn cuddles! I’ll head home and edit a few sneak peeks for you that same day, so you have photos to post online to share your baby with the world if you wish!
